TAG Heuer has announced the release of the Aquaracer Professional 200, a new addition to its collection. Heuer began its revamp last year of the Aquaracer series with the introduction of the Professional 300 models into the competitive dive watch space with their 43mm cases with ceramic unidirectional bezels. The brand’s new Professional 200 40mm Aquaracer aims to draw upon the wider sports watch market with its sleeker size. This new sophisticated tool watch has a unidirectional rotating bezel with twelve facets, water resistance to 200 meters, and either an automatic mechanical or quartz movement. “The Aquaracer Professional 200 is a companion for a fast-paced, unforgettable life full of adventure and achievement, a life lived beyond the edge,” according to TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault.
For a historical perspective, the Aquaracer name was added in 2004 and continued the legacy of TAG Heuer’s six design codes: a uni-directional rotating bezel; a screw-down crown; water resistance to at least 200 meters; luminous markings; a sapphire crystal; and a double safety clasp. Like the larger Tag Heuer Aquaracer 300, the Aquaracer 200 observes those six design principles established more than forty years ago. The bezel features a diving scale, but with the new 200 model, it is engraved into a steel insert, rather than one in ceramic. Lending the watch a more formal feel, the central bracelet link is polished rather than brushed.
The Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 adopts a more classic sports watch look with straight-edged, trapezoidal hour markers, sleeker sword-shaped hands, and crisp white detailing. For dial legibility, the hour markers and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova. The Aquaracer Professional 200 is available in a choice of two automatic and two quartz versions. Automatics are distinguished by date windows (but without a magnifier – to maintain the watch’s streamlined profile), Super-LumiNova sweeping seconds hands, and more detailed minute tracks. The quartz models have no date and a pared-back look by comparison, while otherwise retaining the same aesthetic and technical characteristics. The new models are available as an automatic version with Tag Heuer’s latest Caliber 5 movement, with a black or blue sunray brushed dial. Or a quartz version with a black or silver sun-ray brushed dial.
