Unlike other watchmakers who often become a bit stuffy in their pursuit of excellence, Swatch is one Swiss company that doesn’t forget about fun. The three watches in the new Swatch Flymagic Collection feature an upended mechanical structure that places all skeletonized gear and components directly against the dial. To take this topsy-turvy theme of reversal even further, these watches also feature an inverted movement that actually causes the second hand to rotate backwards! (This is partly due to the movement itself being reversed to face the dial.)
But idiosyncratic playfulness is not all these watches have to offer. The watches in the Flymagic Collection feature an innovative paramagnetic Nivachron hairspring that drastically reduces the negative effects of magnetism on mechanical watch movements.
To be honest, the 45mm case size is too big, and the $1500 price tag is absurd for a Swatch. But if these watches are still tickling your horological fancy after hearing that, you better act fast. Each of the three Swatch Flymagic models will be limited to 500 pieces.
