During last night’s MTV Movie Awards we were treated to Paramount Pictures’ first trailer for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, the first film in almost a decade from the G.I. Joe franchise. While plot details have mostly been kept under wraps, the action-adventure movie, set to release in theaters on July 23rd, will follow the backstory of the iconic G.I. Joe character, Snake Eyes, and likely show how he ultimately joined the G.I. Joe team.
The Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins trailer opens with heavy gunfire and a thrilling sword fight atop a moving vehicle. “Every warrior has a beginning,” says the voice-over when we’re introduced to Snake Eyes, played by Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding, as he appears to begin training with the G.I. Joe universe Japanese clan called the Arashikage. With them, Snake Eyes learns how to become a ninja warrior and keep peace in the world. The short clip also offers glimpses of other figures from the GI Joe universe such as Andrew Koji (Fast & Furious 6; Bullet Train) as Storm Shadow, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Scarlett, and Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist; Snatch) as Baroness. Snake Eyes is one of the original characters in the G.I. Joe comic and one of its most popular, which bodes well for the potential success of this G.I. Joe full reboot.
