When digital watches became all the rage in the late 1970s/early 1980s, the quartz plaguebearer Seiko (who single-handedly put so many Swiss watch brands out of business) understandably released quite a few classics. Now, Seiko has partnered again with the legendary Italian automotive design studio Giugiaro to jump back into the digital arena with a reimagining of the iconic 1983 Seiko “Speedmaster” (no ties to Omega, although considering the sheer number of Omega’s limited editions one may say that it’s a only matter of time).
Giugiaro’s touch is all over the Seiko × Giugiaro Design Speedmaster Digital Tachymeter Watch. Its precise readouts and gently curved lines reflect the widely celebrated work that Giugiaro has done for sports car manufacturers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. But the decidedly retro feel to this watch remains true to the original Seiko x Giugiaro Design Speedmaster.
The Seiko × Giugiaro Design Tachymeter is driven by highly precise quartz movement, curved hardlex crystal, and a stainless steel band. Available in black, gold, and silver, this watch will have a limited production run of 3,000 units.
