Louis Poulsen’s newest release, the Rumee 220 Portable Lamp, proves that great lighting isn’t just functional—it’s emotional. Designed in collaboration with 2025 Designer of the Year Gabriel Tan, the sculptural lamp blends playful naming, natural inspiration, and Nordic sensibility into a portable companion meant to bring warmth wherever you go.

The name “Rumee” cleverly merges the Danish word rum (meaning “space” or “room”) with the English “me,” while also nodding to the friendly sound of “roomie.” The result is a lamp conceived as a comforting presence—something that feels like home, whether you’re reading with your child, hosting friends, or setting a mood while traveling.

Inspired by the fluid, spacious curves of a broad sunhat, the Rumee 220 features a gentle, asymmetric silhouette that feels both organic and modern. Its design language channels Gabriel Tan’s signature approach: merging nature’s forms with sculptural restraint, adding emotional depth to a functional object.

Despite weighing just 0.8 pounds, the Rumee delivers a surprisingly immersive lighting experience. A built-in diffuser ensures glare-free illumination, while its 360-degree ambient glow creates a soft halo ideal for close-up tasks or mood setting. The lamp is fully dimmable, tactile to hold, and effortless to move from room to room—embodying the idea of “portable coziness” that Tan aimed to achieve.

At $285, the Rumee 220 Portable Lamp stands as both a design statement and a versatile, everyday companion—an object that elevates any space with quiet personality and a warm, modern glow.
