Rolls-Royce has unveiled a styling change to one of its most iconic symbols – the Spirit of Ecstasy. The proud statue has been gracing the hoods of Rolls-Royces for over 100 years. Its redesign was overseen by a team of stylists tasked with updating the statue’s facial features, posture, hair, and clothes. More than a simple makeover, the new Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy has been enhanced to be more aerodynamic.
The redesign process was done digitally to allow for precise edits. The new Rolls-Royce hood ornament now stands at 3.25-inches in height, which is 0.68-inches shorter than the outgoing design. The most notable visual changes on the Spirit of Ecstasy are the arms that extend further back. The robes on the statue are also sleeker and positioned like the wings on an airplane. The new Spirit of Ecstasy will become a standard for all future Rolls-Royce models. The first vehicle to premiere it is the upcoming Rolls-Royce Spectre, the brand’s first electric production car.
Part of the allure of the Spirit of Ecstasy is that no two are exactly the same. Each hood ornament is finished by hand. The standard material is stainless steel. However, buyers have the option of solid silver, plated gold, carbon fiber, or illuminated crystal. A lit-up ring at the base is also an available option.
