If you’re in a position in life where you can afford a bespoke Rolls-Royce, then we can only assume you have the luxury of time on your side. At least, that’s the logic we presume Rolls-Royce had when they launched its latest special edition collection. The Rolls-Royce Phantom Tempus Collection is a limited-edition unique to the Rolls-Royce Phantom with a low-production run of just 20 examples – all of which have been sold. The concept of the Phantom Tempus Collection was inspired by the infinite universe that surrounds us.
As with any limited-edition Rolls-Royce, it features a gallery of design details to stimulate the eyes. Each of these cars wears a unique exterior coat of Kairos Blue sprinkled with blue mice flakes that will dance when captured by sunlight. Inside, the focal point is the custom headliner made from fiber-optic lighting and custom embroidery. This headliner was inspired by pulsar, a rare celestial phenomenon found in space’s deepest voids. Pulsars are white-hot stars that emit pulses of electromagnetic radiation at a rate so regular that they are considered the most accurate clocks in the universe.
Other stellar interior details include an engraved plaque with a quote by Albert Einstein located on the glove box that reads, “The distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.” The dashboard doubles as a canvas for 100 individual contoured columns, made from a single billet of aluminum, to represent the 100-million-year rotation of a pulsar star. There is no clock inside the Rolls-Royce Phantom Tempus Collection — a reflection of RR’s philosophy: “Freedom from time and its limitations.” This bespoke Rolls-Royce Phantom sounds like the ideal motor-carriage in which to enjoy Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album.
