Ressence’s TYPE 8 INDIGO is an exquisite blend of centuries-old Japanese craftsmanship and cutting-edge horology. Designed as a tribute to The Indigo Project, led by Tokyo-based Shellman, this limited-edition watch celebrates the art of traditional indigo dyeing. At its heart lies a mesmerizing dial adorned with a spiral pattern crafted from a single 2.5-meter indigo-dyed silk thread, just 0.2mm thick. This delicate detail, hand-placed by skilled artisans, creates a range of deep blue tones that shift with the light, showcasing the vibrant legacy of Japanese partisanship.
The TYPE 8 serves as the perfect canvas for this intricate design. Renowned for its minimalist time-telling system, the watch displays only hours and minutes with a central hand for hours and an expansive outer hand for minutes. This pared-down approach enhances readability and highlights the dial’s artistic complexity. Crafting the design wasn’t without challenges; Ressence had to carve out precise pockets in the titanium dial to accommodate the thread, maintaining a 0.25mm gap between the dial and sapphire crystal.
As with all Ressence watches, the TYPE 8 INDIGO employs the brand’s innovative ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System) module atop a base movement. This timepiece, encased in lightweight titanium and measuring 42.9mm in diameter, combines timeless artistry with modern engineering. Priced at $28,000, the TYPE 8 INDIGO is more than a watch—it’s a wearable masterpiece.
