To mark its first decade, Ressence has been reinterpreting the models that defined its first 10 years with the new Collection X limited editions. Each of these limited editions has managed to demonstrate the charm of the original Ressence that inspired them while providing a twist in terms of their design. The newest timepiece in the Collection X is the Type 3X, which revisits its 2013 oil-filled Type 3 watch and delivers a message of hope in these days of gloom and doom triggered by the pandemic. With a new dial crafted by New York-based designer Stefan Sagmeister who added the words “Now is Better” on the minutes track, the Ressence Type 3X is a 40 piece limited edition and marks the third piece out of four in the Collection X series.
Inside the 44mm grade 5 titanium case are two chambers separating the movement and gears, with a magnetic transmission connector between. The upper half is filled with precisely 35.7ml of oil to create the illusion of floating hands and indicators while ensuring legibility from every possible angle. With its impressive micromechanical solutions and 376 parts, it might come as a surprise that the movement powering the Type 3X is in fact a customized ETA 2824/2. The sole purpose of this reliable automatic movement is to drive the minute axle that in turn drives the patented Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS). In place of a traditional crown, the re-engineered case back can be used to adjust the time, keeping the overall profile of this piece minimal and unique. The green leather strap with ardillon buckle is the common thread that links each model from the limited-edition collection.
