Irish whiskey brand Proper No. Twelve has expanded its range with Black Reserve, a richer expression crafted for discerning drinkers. The triple‑distilled blend combines single malt and grain whiskey, then ages for a minimum of four years in level 3 heavily charred bourbon barrels. Maturation occurs in both first‑ and second‑fill American oak, allowing the distillate to draw out layers of caramel, toasted wood and vanilla while retaining the brand’s signature smoothness.

Heavily charred first‑fill casks intensify the bourbon‑derived flavours as heat opens the oak grain to impart robust caramel and smoky sweetness, while second‑fill barrels contribute the familiar Proper No. Twelve profile. According to Proximo Spirits’ marketing chief Lander Otegui, the Black Reserve reinforces the brand’s ethos of craftsmanship and approachability built on more than four centuries of whiskey‑making expertise.
Bottled at 40 percent ABV, Black Reserve is designed to be enjoyed neat or over ice. It also pairs well with classic cocktails; Proper suggests a Black Honey Old Fashioned made by adding a bar spoon of honey to highlight the whiskey’s vanilla notes. The new expression is now available across the United States at an average retail price of $32.99.
