Pioneer Square in downtown Seattle has been a thriving hub in the city for generations, boasting an extensive selection of trendy bars and art galleries that cater to connoisseurs. The new Populus Seattle sits in the heart of the district, offering guests a unique space that transports them into a lush rainforest.

Upon entering the Populus Seattle hotel, guests are greeted by artist Isvald Klingels’ “Ghost Forest” installation, creating the sense of a living landscape indoors. This immersive experience continues throughout the building, featuring fallen tree stumps, logs, and branches set against old-growth Red Cedars and a rare 16-foot-tall Yew tree that spirals toward the ceiling.

Moss and other plant life extend up the multi-story sky court to accentuate the sensation, finishing with an all-glass solarium for the main restaurant in the hotel, Salt Harvest. This naturalistic sense of space is complemented by a series of stunning, large-format paintings, which line the walls of the Library and Art Room.

The Populus Seattle also features a granite-carved grand staircase leading to the restaurant, accompanied by ocean-hued pottery created by the celebrated Portland artist Kati von Lehman. Handmade flowers by Quyhn Nguyen add vibrant colors to the experience, each contained in Gary Bodker’s glass vessels.

Throughout the architectural design, the rich industrial heritage of Seattle is evident, merging the past and present with a forward-looking design. Part restoration, part reinvigoration of classic forms, it forms a powerful presence that leaves a lasting impression on visitors.
