The world of watchmaking can be fascinating, as it’s always a delicate balancing act between the newest technology and tradition. As we’ve seen with the emergence of new wearable tech like smart watches in recent years, new technology and innovation can be exciting, but also unsettling for traditionalists.

Panerai introduces a new watch that embraces new technology and innovation with their latest Luminor Submersible 1950 Carbotech watch. It’s uniqueness and innovation comes from its material, carbotech, a composite material based on carbon fiber, which has never been used in watchmaking before. While the material of the watch may look to the future, the watch’s mechanicals are still thoroughly inspired by the history of the brand — the 47mm Luminor 1950 case was developed by Panerai in the late 1940s for the Italian navy and is water resistant up to 300-meters. Now this is what we call the perfect marriage of technology and tradition.
