Releasing more than one limited edition for a single commemorative occasion is becoming a thing, and Omega of course is no stranger to limited editions. Celebrating 50 years of the moon landing, Omega releases a second Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary watch, albeit in a questionably limited quantity of 6,969 pieces.
This moonwatch features a laser engraving of Buzz Aldrin descending the lunar module onto the lunar surface on the seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. On the back, gold-plated lettering commemorates Neil Armstrong’s famous words: “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” encircling a laser engraving of the astronaut’s iconic footprint. The bezel, indexes, and hands are all 18-karat gold.
The watch features a handwound 3861 Co-Axial chronometer movement, 50 meters of water resistance, and flat sapphire crystal on both sides. Anti-magnetic to 15,000 gauss, the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Speedmaster comes on a polished-brushed steel bezel and with a Velcro strap in black-coated cork. And of course, the display box and accessories steal the show.
