Watchmaker Omega has unveiled its new De Ville Trésor Orbis Edition timepiece to raise funds in support of Orbis International. Orbis is a non-profit organization best known for its Flying Eye Hospital, which travels to the world’s most remote areas to treat avoidable blindness. Omega has been a prominent supporter of Orbis since 2011, hosting auctions, launching sales, and releasing novelties all in support of the non-profit’s efforts.
This special piece comes in a 40-mm polished steel case with the De Ville Trésor’s signature thin silhouette. The small signed crown and seamless, curved lugs add to the overall understated, more formal appearance of the watch. The domed gradient blue dial includes a seconds hand in varnished Orbis blue. At 6 o’clock the dial’s normally nondescript date window showcases this watch’s novelty feature: On the 8th of each month, a light-blue teddy bear— a symbol of Orbis — is displayed, matching the color of the seconds hand that sweeps above it. While the cost of the polished bezel De Ville Trésor Orbis Edition is $6,500, it should be noted that Omega is offering a diamond-set bezel version of the De Ville Trésor Orbis Edition which will run $11,800.
