In the heart of Vietnam’s chaotic urban sprawl, the OM House by AN NAM Architecture emerges as a sanctuary of calm. Crafted for a multigenerational family seeking peace and connection with nature, this private villa breaks free from traditional molds. Rather than fighting the high-density, noisy surroundings, OM House embraces a philosophy of inward serenity. The exterior presents a quiet, protective front, but within lies a world of green: curated gardens, koi ponds, a vegetable patch, and even a tranquil pool. It’s an architectural ode to slow living, marrying sustainability with style.

Occupying just 47% of the land, the remaining area blooms into a lush outdoor playground. Think of it less like a home and more like a holistic micro-retreat. At the heart of the design is a spiraling sandstone wall, a structural and symbolic backbone that ensures privacy while organically shaping the villa’s layout. Each room flows seamlessly into the next, guided by this living wall.

The Z-shaped ground floor acts as a connective tissue, blending indoor and outdoor spaces with masterful fluidity. The living area, kitchen, and reading nook are configured to draw breezes from the Southeast—an homage to passive ventilation techniques rooted in Vietnamese tradition. On the second floor, a more private atmosphere prevails, featuring bedrooms, a worship space, and an open, flexible workspace.

A central void unites the floors, providing visual continuity and enhancing airflow. The architecture is not just beautiful—it’s breathable. Adjacent to the main residence, a guest house with two bedrooms and an outdoor kitchen overlooks the garden and pool, making it perfect for visitors or evenings of entertaining.
Natural materials do the heavy lifting aesthetically. Sandstone walls, basalt floors, teak wood detailing, and raw concrete ceilings create an organic visual harmony that’s both grounded and luxurious. Every element serves a purpose, from climate regulation to honoring local craftsmanship.
OM House isn’t just a residence—it’s a retreat, a response, and a revolution in how we think about urban living. In a world that’s constantly moving, it’s a masterclass in stillness.
