Swiss watchmaker Ochs und Junior is known for its commitment to simplicity and innovation in watchmaking. Founded by Ludwig Oechslin in 2006, the brand has consistently strived to find simpler solutions to complex problems. This philosophy has led to the development of complications with minimal components and a radical minimalist design. Now, the brand is revisiting its Selene model with an attractive blue-green patinated bronze dial, the Ochs und Junior Selene Nebra, reminiscent of the famous Nebra sky disc dating back to the Early Bronze Age Unetice culture.
In 2013, a customer’s request for a customized version of the Selene moon phase with a special dial inspired by the ancient bronze Nebra sky disc set the stage for a decade-long journey. The Selene Nebra is available in 39mm and 42mm diameters, encased in grade 5 titanium, with striking gold markings that evoke the ancient astronomical wonder. The accuracy of the watch is ensured by a five-part epicyclic gear module on top of an ETA 2824-2 movement with a 38-hour power reserve, requiring adjustment only once every 3,478.27 years.
This unique timepiece also features Oeschlin’s Mese date display, with gold dot markers indicating not only the date but also minutes and seconds. The lunar cycles are elegantly displayed, with the full Moon represented by a hammered platinum circle.
The Ochs und Junior Selene Nebra is available for order until January 6, 2024, priced at $8,995. Early orders placed before November 20, 2023, will arrive before Christmas, while later orders will be dispatched in January/February 2024.
