Leica, the world-renowned German camera and optics manufacturer, has recently released a new addition to its watch collection – the Leica ZM Monochrom Edition. This exclusive timepiece draws inspiration from the latest Leica M11 Monochrom camera, reflecting the fundamental principles of black and white photography. It focuses on contrast and light, delivering remarkable tones and nuances of black and grey, revealing a depth of detail that inspires.
The 41mm Leica ZM Monochrom Edition consists of two models – the Leica ZM 1 and the Leica ZM 2. Both watches display hours, minutes, and seconds, a date window, status, and power reserve. They are fitted with a scratch-proof domed sapphire crystal, transparent case back, and are water-resistant to a depth of 50 meters.
What sets the Leica watches apart from others is their patented push-crown. The mechanism is pushed rather than pulled, which resets the small seconds hand to zero, offering a convenient way to set the time. The push-crown is coupled with a separate display that switches between red and white to indicate the status of the watch. The Leica ZM 2 also has a GMT function, indicating the second time zone on the dial, facilitated by a 12-hour bezel.
Each Leica watch is handcrafted in Germany, and the majority of the integrated components are produced in the company’s very own Black Forest manufactory. The manually wound movement was developed from scratch, showcasing the symbiosis of visionary technology, traditional engineering craftsmanship, and typical Leica quality.
The Leica ZM Monochrom Edition removes all color except for the Red Dot, letting the exquisite craftsmanship speak for itself. The watch strap is made of thick, black calf leather with a strong grain, which is identical to the leather cover of the Leica M11 Monochrom.
In summary, the Leica ZM Monochrom Edition is an exclusive and luxurious timepiece, handcrafted with precision and excellence, reflecting 150 years of German engineering and quality. The watches will be available in late May at selected Leica stores worldwide starting at $12,737.
