Clocking in at 38mm but packing a serious punch, the Laventure Marine Type 3 Chronometer is a full-bore tool watch inspired by 1980s marine chronometers and built for adventure. Founder Clément Gaud, operating solo since 2017, flips the script on Swiss-made elegance with this brutalist titanium beast.
At first glance, the oversized, fixed bezel dominates, engraved with 60 lacquer-filled graduations that channel pure chronometer DNA, while the petite dial whispers vintage dashboard instrument. This aesthetic pays homage to precision timepieces that charted the seas in decades past.
However, the real story lies beneath the surface. The entire case, bezel, crown guard, and back are machined from Grade 23 titanium—the same alloy found in Blancpain’s professional divers—providing featherweight strength, corrosion resistance, and a raw stonewashed finish that softens edges and intensifies the grit. A screw-down crown and 300 m water resistance keep it mission-ready. Notably absent? Sapphire crystal. Instead, a Plexiglas “chimney” crystal offers warmth, shock resilience, and Swiss-made authenticity.
Inside, Sellita’s SW300-1‑based Calibre 4 hums at 4 Hz with 56 hours of power. Laventure built an anti-magnetic Faraday cage by layering a soft-iron base plate under the dial and enclosing the movement with a magnetic shield—a technology rare in independent watchmakers.
Available in black or fully lumed white dial variants and limited to just 100 pieces per color, the Marine Type 3 is priced at $5,260. It’s a ruthless, purpose-built instrument that ditches ornament for brutal function, and that’s precisely why it rocks.
