Warner Bros. Pictures has just unveiled the first trailer of its highly-anticipated sports drama titled King Richard. The film, a biopic that follows the journey of Richard Williams, a determined father instrumental in raising two of the most extraordinarily gifted athletes of all time, Venus and Serena Williams. King Richard features Will Smith in the lead role with Saniyaa Sidney portraying Venus, while Demi Singleton plays Serena. The film is an intimate look at how Richard trained his young daughters to be world-class athletes, taking them from the streets of Compton, California to the global stage.
The trailer shows Richard taking Serena and Venus to the tennis court come rain or shine, doing all he can to prepare them for greatness. He tells his daughters, “This world ain’t never had no respect for Richard Williams. But they’re going to respect y’all.” Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who directed Monsters and Men and Joe Bell, the film includes Jon Bernthal as coach Rick Macci, Tony Goldwyn as coach Paul Cohen, and Dylan McDermott as a sports agent. King Richard is set to release on November 19th in both theaters and on HBO Max. In conclusion, while speaking with his wife Oracene, played by Aunjanue Ellis, Richard declares: “Venus and Serena gonna shake up this world.” That they have, and then some.
