JBL has long been synonymous with versatile, hard-hitting sound, and its latest addition, the JBL GRIP, extends that reputation with a rugged, portable design built for everyday adventure. Officially up for preorder at $100, with availability beginning September 28, the GRIP slots neatly into JBL’s mid-range lineup, offering a mix of durability, portability, and features that make it a true rival to other sub-$100 speakers on the market.

Roughly the size of a tall can, the GRIP is small enough to toss in a backpack but powerful enough to hold its own. At the core is JBL Pro Sound, enhanced by AI Sound Boost, which automatically optimizes audio output at higher volumes for clarity without distortion. A 43 x 80mm full-range transducer ensures punchy, balanced performance, while an IP68 water- and dust-proof rating makes it beach- and trail-ready.

Battery life clocks in at 12 hours of playback, with an additional two hours via PlayTime Boost. The addition of Auracast connectivity allows multiple GRIP speakers to be linked for an immersive audio setup. The speaker is further customizable through the JBL app, where users can adjust the EQ and even tweak the ambient light panel on the back—six bold colorways—including camo, red, and purple—round out the personalization options.

With its rope hook for easy carry and a sub-$100 price point, the GRIP is set to go head-to-head with the likes of Ultimate Ears’ Wonderboom 4, but with added water resistance, app integration, and JBL’s signature edge in sound design, it might just take the crown.
