IWC Schaffhausen has once again made horological history, earning the prestigious “Aiguille d’Or” at the 24th Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève for its Portugieser Eternal Calendar. This first-ever secular perpetual calendar from IWC represents a significant leap in mechanical watchmaking.
A newly developed 400-year gear enables the watch to bypass three leap years every four centuries, ensuring unparalleled accuracy. Its Double Moon™ phase display is another marvel, deviating from the moon’s orbit by just one day over a staggering 45 million years—a precision that sets a world record.
The watch’s accolades don’t stop with engineering. The Portugieser Eternal Calendar is a visual masterpiece housed in an elaborately finished platinum case. Sapphire box-glass crystals on both sides reveal a stunning transparent dial and the intricacies of IWC’s in-house 52640 caliber. The calendar’s modular and synchronized design allows all its displays to be adjusted effortlessly via the crown, blending convenience with extraordinary sophistication.
Unveiled earlier this year, the watch was showcased in a global exhibition tour before being awarded the “Aiguille d’Or.” At $155,000, the IWC Portugieser Eternal Calendar is more than a timepiece—it’s a celebration of engineering and timeless artistry.
