Lowland distillery Glenkinchie has released an evocative 30‑year single malt named ‘A Richness of Swallows’. Inspired by the annual migration of swallows that return to the Scottish Lowlands each spring, the limited edition is restricted to 1,002 bottles and priced at $797 (£595).
The whisky spent 28 years maturing in a combination of American and European oak casks before a final marrying period in European oak puncheons. It is bottled at 58.4 percent ABV and presented in packaging adorned with illustrations of swooping swallows and Lowland flora.

On the nose, the whisky offers aromas of honeycomb and soft orchard fruit. The palate is described as creamy‑smooth with sweet, perfumed flavors balanced by lemon‑tinged acidity. A long finish delivers honeyed malt, subtle spice and a return of floral notes reminiscent of springtime blooms. The release forms part of Glenkinchie’s storytelling series that highlights local wildlife and the distillery’s rural surroundings. It follows previous expressions inspired by hares and red deer.
Because the expression is available exclusively through the Glenkinchie distillery shop, travelers to East Lothian on or after March 27 have a narrow window to secure a bottle. Collectors can learn more about the distillery and its visitor experience via the Glenkinchie portal, which details tours, tastings and other limited releases. Those seeking broader context on Diageo’s Lowlands operations can explore the parent company’s site or sign up for notifications regarding future small‑batch bottlings.
With its combination of extended maturation and poetic inspiration, A Richness of Swallows will appeal to whisky enthusiasts who appreciate both provenance and romance in their drams.
