Swiss luxury watchmaker, Girard-Perregaux, has just released its Laureato 38mm Copper, a new member of the Laureato family, which was first launched in 1975. With its 38mm size, we see the popular midsize format be reintroduced to the Laureato collection with a stainless steel case and integrated bracelet paired with, as its name suggests, a metallic copper dial. The angular tonneau-shaped case is just under 10mm thick and crafted entirely from stainless steel. Its design includes a thin circular ring with an octagonal bezel completing the top of the watch. The Laureato’s dial is protected by a flat anti-reflective sapphire crystal, while the display caseback is attached by six screws working together with the signed screw-down winding crown, providing users with 100 meters of water resistance.
The dial of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato 38mm Copper is stunning with its Clous de Paris (hobnail) motif, which “is composed of multiple pyramidal structures that engage with light, bestowing tiny pockets of brilliance and shade.” The copper coloration transitions from a tawny brown to a pink-toned gold with a variety of shades in between. Rhodium-plated baton-style indexes serve as the hour markers, while a date window sits at 3 o’clock with a color-matched calendar disc. The periphery of the dial finds a slightly raised chapter ring with a minute track printed in white, with a slightly thicker print used to indicate each of the five-minute markers. Time is indicated by the trio of centrally-mounted baton-style hands. The hour markers and hands are finished with white-emission luminous material for added legibility in the dark.
Powering the new Girard-Perregaux Laureato 38mm Copper is the brand’s in-house Caliber GP03300 self-winding movement. Consisting of 218 individual components and running at a frequency of 28,800vph, the 27-jewel Caliber GP03300 provides an approximate power reserve of 46 hours. Just like its Laureato siblings, the 38mm Copper uses the same style of H-link bracelet, which features brushed and polished surfaces. The watch is available for purchase on the Girard-Perregaux website for $14,900.
