Craft whiskey brand Buzzard’s Roost has built its reputation on innovative wood management, and its latest release continues that ethos. The Four Grain Double Oak Bourbon, announced this week, is the first five‑year expression in the Louisville distillery’s lineup and combines a rare four‑grain mashbill with the company’s signature double‑oak finishing. The bourbon comprises 73 percent corn, 16 percent wheat, 6 percent rye and 5 percent malted barley — a recipe that draws sweetness from wheat, spice from rye and nuttiness from malt.

After aging in new American white oak barrels, the whiskey is transferred to lightly charred, precision‑toasted casks from the Independent Stave Company. This second maturation develops layers of flavor without overwhelming the underlying grain character. Tasting notes from the distillery describe aromas of baking bread, brown sugar and vanilla crème brûlée, leading to a palate of cinnamon, chocolate‑covered toffee, crushed almonds and poached pears. The finish is described as nutty and warm, lingering just long enough to invite another sip.
The Four Grain Double Oak Bourbon is bottled at 100 proof (50 percent ABV), retaining enough weight to carry its complex flavors while remaining approachable. Buzzard’s Roost plans to sell the expression for $79.99. It will be available online starting February 5, 2026, followed by an in‑person release at the brand’s Louisville distillery on February 7, where co‑founders will sign bottles for visitors. Quantities are limited, and the distillery expects enthusiasts to act quickly.
With this release, Buzzard’s Roost continues its focus on barrel innovation and blending to craft nuanced whiskeys. The combination of four grains and double‑oak maturation reflects a meticulous approach to whiskey making, offering a profile that is simultaneously sweet, spicy and gently tannic.
