Ferrari 812 Superfast

Ferrari’s new V12 flagship is the fastest series production vehicle to ever roll out of Maranello.

Ahead of its official debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari unveils the successor to the F12 Berlinetta, the Ferrari 812 Superfast. Instead of an exotic-sounding Italian name like Speciale or Berlinetta, the new vehicle’s name is almost like a promise that it will not disappoint when it comes to its speed.

First things first — to be truly super fast, it needs motivation from a powerful engine, and the Ferrari 812 Superfast delivers on that front with flying colors. Officially the fastest series production Ferrari ever, the 812 Superfast has a power plant that’s 200cc larger than its predecessor’s. The 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 produces 789 hp at a screaming 8,500 rpm and 530 ft-lb of torque at 7,000 rpm. Zero to 62 mph only takes 2.9 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 211 mph.

Design wise, the overall silhouette is similar to the F12, retaining its fastback shape. What distinguishes the 812 Superfast from its predecessor, though, is the more aggressively styled sheetmetal that’s accented by details like a sharper headlight and quad taillights that mimic that of the GTC4Lusso. The interior has been tweaked as well, befitting the aggressive performance of the 812 Superfast. In an era when most high performance motors are going the turbocharged route, it’s nice to see Ferrari sticking with a naturally aspirated V12 monster for its flagship sports car.
