BMW produced more than 22,000 R80 Monolevers from 1982 to the discontinuation of the line in 1995. This workhorse of a motorbike featured a 797.5cc twin-flat boxer engine capable of producing 49 horsepower and 59 Newton-meters of torque. The R80 Monolever serves as the perfect beginning for Project #4. And Project #4 serves as the perfect opportunity for Nuremberg, Germany’s Elemental Custom Cycles to embody its mantra: “Life’s too short to ride boring motorcycles.”
After securing an R80 Monolever with an exceptional engine, Elemental Custom Cycles got to work installing a 2-in-1 stainless steel exhaust manifold with an under-engine muffler. The company also retooled the bike’s suspension, lowering its front fork by 50 millimeters and outfitting the rear fork with a solo YSS shock. Elemental Custom Cycles also brought the R80 Monolever in line with modern standards by installing push-button controls complete with a Motogadget M unit.
