Today, MGM Studios dropped the Creed III Official Trailer from director Michael B. Jordan, in his feature filmmaking debut. CREED III is the ninth film in the Rocky franchise and the first film in the franchise that doesn’t include Sylvester Stallone, who brought the Rocky Balboa character to life in the previous eight films. Zach Baylin (King Richard) and Keenan Coogler (Space Jam: A New Legacy) wrote the screenplay, and Ryan Coogler, Keenan Coogler, and Zach Baylin envisioned the story. The first Creed film in 2015, followed young Adonis Creed, Apollo Creed’s son, as he became Rocky’s student and went on to win the heavyweight championship.
Creed II (2018), directed by Steven Caple Jr., was the sequel starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone. Jordan is again entering the ring as Adonis and directs this more personal story. The CREED III Official Trailer finds Adonis Creed training for a match with childhood friend and former boxing prodigy Damian Anderson (Jonathan Major). Anderson is recently released from prison and returns wanting a face-off with Creed. The trailer shows the two on a collision course. CREED III used Imax cameras, beginning production in early 2022 and wrapping mid-year. The first Creed spinoff story opened in theaters in 2015 and grossed $109 million domestically. The sequel hit theaters in 2018, around Thanksgiving, and grossed $115 million in North America. Look for CREED III to premiere in theaters and IMAX on March 3, 2023.
