Caterham has a long tradition of revisiting motoring history, and its latest collaboration with British motorsport stalwart HWM (Hersham and Walton Motors) is no exception. The Seven HWM Edition pays homage to the 1951 HWM‑Alta F2 grand prix car, adopting the same “HWM Green” shade—painstakingly color‑matched from the original racer—and adding side‑panel louvres and a bespoke grille.

Only 19 examples will be built for the U.K. market, each starting at £57,990. Buyers can further personalize the look with Retro Grey suspension components and a centrally mounted chrome fuel filler cap, both nods to classic race‑car styling.

Inside, the cockpit is equally considered: a hand‑turned aluminum dashboard houses Smiths chrome dials, a solid metal master cut‑off switch and a polished wooden Moto‑Lita steering wheel.

Customers can specify either padded leather seats or composite racing shells, both embroidered with the HWM logo. Underneath the retro cosmetics lies the chassis of the Seven 420, powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0‑liter Ford Duratec engine that produces 210 horsepower. Paired with a lightweight chassis, the car sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

Though limited, the HWM Edition underscores Caterham’s ability to blend modern performance with period‑correct details. The partnership with HWM—a team that fielded Formula Two cars in the early 1950s—gives the edition deeper significance than a simple paint and trim package.

For collectors and driving enthusiasts who appreciate the tactile experience of a minimalist sports car, the Seven HWM Edition offers a fusion of heritage and contemporary engineering.
