Graphic artist Joshua Vides built his reputation by transforming real‑world objects into black‑and‑white line drawings, and his latest canvas is Casio’s indestructible digital watch. The G‑Shock x Joshua Vides collaboration applies thick marker strokes to two of the brand’s most recognisable models: the rectangular DW‑5600 and the circular DW‑6900.
Painted onto the white resin case and strap of the DW‑5600JV‑7 watch or the black resin of the DW6900JV‑1, Vides’ trompe‑l’oeil markings give the impression of a two‑dimensional sketch hovering over a three‑dimensional object.

Under the whimsical artwork lies the same rugged technology that made G‑Shock a cult favourite. The DW5600 model measures a compact 42.8 mm across and only 13.4 mm thick, yet it is water‑resistant to 200 metres and shock‑resistant enough to withstand serious abuse.
A quartz module provides a stopwatch, countdown timer, daily alarm and electroluminescent backlight, and a single CR2016 battery powers the watch for approximately five years. Both variants are built from Casio’s proven bio‑based resin and feature a comfortable strap with a cartoon signature printed on the band keeper.

Only a limited number of pieces will be produced, and the collaboration will be offered at US$180 through select retailers. With its playful reinterpretation of everyday objects, Joshua Vides’ work sits comfortably alongside streetwear and sneaker culture, making this G‑Shock collaboration a natural extension of his aesthetic.
For collectors who appreciate the intersection of art and gear, the watches represent a functional canvas that won’t mind being knocked around. They also serve as a reminder that toughness doesn’t have to be humorless – a welcome sentiment in an increasingly self‑serious market and call back to G‑Shock history.
