Canon’s range of PowerShot cameras has been serving casual photographers for many years, bringing the manufacturer’s trademark performance and image quality to a compact format. The new Canon PowerShot V1 Compact Camera has landed with minimal fanfare but promises to deliver an impressive upgrade over previous models.

The Canon PowerShot V1 Compact Camera delivers several notable improvements over its predecessor. It features a 3:2 aspect ratio micro four-thirds sensor combined with Canon’s Dual Pixel AF II for rapid autofocus. It utilizes a dual shutter system for versatile shooting scenarios, with up to 15 frames per second with the mechanical shutter and capping at 30fps when using the electronic shutter.

With images processed via the DIGIC X processor, the Canon PowerShot V1 Compact Camera can produce crisp photographs with rich colors and contrast. Thanks to the full autofocus support for humans and animals, it’s the ideal compact option for photographers looking to take casual snaps of the family.

The Canon PowerShot V1 Compact Camera also supports video modes, with full-width 4K footage up to 30p delivered through a 5.7K capture system. For extended recording, the camera is constructed with a dedicated cooling fan to keep overheating to a minimum, whether recording in wired or wireless mode.

Many additional features impress, from the multi-function hotshot for flashes and microphones to the fully articulated rear touchscreen to assist with compositions. With a 16 to 50mm f2.8 zoom lens, the Canon PowerShot V1 Compact Camera delivers plenty of shooting flexibility in a pocket-sized format. Vloggers and photographers in North America will have to wait a little while to get one, however. At launch, the V1 is only available in China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
