Jordan Peele Brings ‘Candyman’ Back To The Big Screen

This film is set to be a direct sequel to the original, with the story taking place in the now gentrified location of the Candyman’s origin.

What’s old is new again. Recently, the genre of horror has seen a deep dive into classic cinematic stories of yesteryear, pulling out legendary fright films such as IT, Child’s Play, and The Shining to reintroduce them to a new generation of audiences. Candyman is next on the list. The original hit theaters in 1992. Now, 28 years later, the next chapter of Candyman is set to be unleashed onto theater victims everywhere. While the original saw a number of spin-offs, the forthcoming June 12, 2020 release is set to be a more direct sequel, with the film taking place in the gentrified location of the original Chicago legend.

Written by Jordan Peele, who also penned the modern horror classics Get Out and Us, the new take on Candyman looks to bring this horror classic into a new era of storytelling. Nia DaCosta helped realize Peele’s vision by directing the film. Check out the Candyman Official Trailer if you dare, but whatever you do, avoid saying his name in the mirror.
