New York City-based watchmaker, Brew, has released its new Retromatic which, like all of Brew’s watches, is informed by coffee culture. Interestingly, the specific inspiration for the Retromatic is bespoke espresso machines that feature a pattern of circular cutouts for drain-grates. The Retromatic dial features these circular cutouts which actually offer excellent legibility and some three-dimensional visual interest. The 36mm case measures 10.5mm thick and, along with the bracelet, is the most distinctive element of the design, thanks to the 1960s style case.
The bar-style bracelet is brushed stainless steel with a quick release. Brew has crafted a bracelet that is comfortable and beautifully complements the Retromatic’s overall design. Brew has given buyers the option of either a Sellita SW-200 movement or a slightly more budget friendly option of a Seiko NH35. The movement choice depends on the dial color. Black and blue have the Sellita movement and burgundy and green have the Seiko movement. For those who have an affinity for unique timepieces, there’s no question that the Brew Retromatic will fit the bill.
