British watchmaker Bremont has just released the Hawking Limited Edition Collection comprised of a trio of watches created as a tribute to renowned Physicist, Stephen Hawking. Bremont is known for cleverly weaving bits of historical artifacts into its special edition watches and the Hawking Collection timepieces all incorporate a sample of wood taken from a vintage desk that Hawking inherited from his grandmother. It was at this very desk that the brilliant scientist developed some of his groundbreaking theories.
The 41mm Bremont Hawking Limited Edition watches feature luminous-coated hour and minute hands that taper to a fine point, while the rectangular hour markers are baton-shaped. A retrograde second hand is located at 6 o’clock balanced by the large double-date window display at 12 o’clock. The self-winding caliber is concealed behind a unique hand-finished caseback that depicts the positioning of the stars in the sky above Oxford on 8th January 1942 – the day of Hawking’s birth. At the center of the design is a piece of meteorite symbolizing the cosmos. The three variations in the collection include a stainless steel and black dial model limited to 388 pieces, an 18ct rose gold with black dial, and an 18ct white gold with blue dial model, both of which will be limited to 88 pieces each. The limited number refers to the year 1988 in which Hawking published his famous book, “A Brief History of Time.”
