The automotive digital landscape of the internet has been buzzing over the hardtop bombshell that is the BMW Concept Touring Coupe. This hand-built one-off sports coupe was unveiled at an equally visually impressive setting, the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Esta in Italy.
The Concept Touring Coupe started off as a BMW Z4 roadster. The once open-air soft top has been ditched in favor of a long metal roof that fuses the former convertible into a shooting-brake design. The coupe sits on a set of 21-inch wheels at the back and 20 inches at the front, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires.
Inspiration for the vehicle is said to come from the 1940 Mille Miglia winner. However, most fans agree that this concept car bears a family resemblance to the popular “clown shoe” BMW Z3 coupe built from 1998-2002.
Inside, the BMW Concept Touring Coupe features an elegant full leather interior in a tri-color pattern of browns, grays, an ochre saddle in the center, and a touch of black accents. In addition, the covered roof creates a new real estate for luggage, which the concept displays with a bespoke three-piece set of luggage courtesy of Schedoni, who also provides Ferrari with tailored travel accessories.
No word on whether this stylish and nostalgic custom Z4 roadster turned shooting brake will go into production, but if the internet has taught us anything it is that decisions are motivated by target audiences. As supported by BMW Group Design Director Adrian van Hooydonk, who responded to the question of whether or not the BMW Concept Touring Coupe would see production at the press event. “But, we made the agreement before we set sail for Lake Como that, if there’s enough interest, we will take a look at it. That could be a very low-volume version, like 50 cars or so.” BMW fans may want to start manifesting online to convince the powers that be that if BMW builds it, the buyers will come.
