To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the original Fifty Fathoms dive watch that inspired the entire collection, Blancpain has announced the release of limited-edition timepieces over the next year. Watches and experiences will center around the iconic numbers 70, 20, and 10 as Blancpain kicks off what should be an exciting year-long event. The first announced addition to the 70th-anniversary collection is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act I, a limited edition run that mirrors the iconic watch that started it all.
The Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act I case is remarkably smaller than the other Fifty Fathoms watch, measuring 42.3mm compared to the standard 45mm model. This smaller case features a simple yet elegant style. With polished stainless steel, durable sapphire bezel, and a screw-down crown, this no-frills dive watch boasts 300m water resistance. The 4:30 date window familiar with all Fifty Fathoms watches no longer has the metal surround framing the face but instead has lume that reaches to the very edge. The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary watch is powered by the Blancpain caliber 1315, which has been the choice movement since 2007. The newly released watch is finished with a NATO-style fabric watchband made from recycled thread collected from fishing nets.
The first release as part of the 70th Anniversary collection is expected to only be available via Blancpain’s website in late January, with pricing still to be announced. This watch is an extremely limited edition, with only 210 total pieces. Three series are being produced, each comprising 70 watches. Each series is dedicated to a region of the world – EMEA, Asia-Pacific, the Americas – and bears a number from I to III on the dial.
