Fans of peaty Scotch have long clamoured for a cask‑strength version of Ardbeg’s iconic Ten. On February 9, Ardbeg answered. The distillery announced a new limited edition matured in hand‑selected American oak casks, some filled with undiluted spirit. Bottled at 61.7% ABV— the highest strength of any Ardbeg Committee release—this whisky amplifies the smoke and sweetness that have made the Ten a benchmark for Islay malts.

Tasting notes include aromas of tar and sea spray, with fennel and toffee leading to flavours of peat moss, malt and smoked cinnamon. Whisky enthusiasts should note that, at 61.7% ABV, this dram is best enjoyed with a few drops of water to unlock its complexity.

Master blender Gillian MacDonald describes it as a momentous celebration of the distillery’s classic style, created with casks filled at higher‑than‑usual strength. Distillery manager Bryony McNiven calls it “arguably one of the most wanted Ardbegs ever,” praising its balance of wood smoke, citrus sweetness and salt. Released for members of the Ardbeg Committee, the bottling will be available online and at select retailers in late February with a suggested retail price of $90.

A small number of bottles will also be sold at the distillery for those willing to travel to Islay.
