The Alpine Shell is seam sealed, waterproof, wind resistant, and breathable, but best of all, the 3-layer plain-weave fabric adjusts its level of heat retention and breathability to the conditions to keep you warm whether you’re going up or down the mountain. There’s a three-point adjustable hood for particularly blustery days, as well as pit zips for ventilation when you begin to overheat. It also has weatherproof zippers all around, including at the center front and chest pockets, while there are dual-entry hand pockets and an interior google pocket around the side of your torso. The Alpine Shell even comes equipped with a RECCO rescue reflector that allows snow-patrol rescuers to locate buried avalanche victims by shooting an electronic signal into the snow.
