The collaboration between the ex-BAPE boss Nigo and adidas continue with the adidas Superstar 80s Pioneers Nigo Shoes. It’s widely known that Nigo is a bit of a hoarder and his fascination extends to vintage labels and logos. It’s probably a reflection of his belief that “the future can be found in our past” that has lead to the design of this unique Superstar that is covered in a wide range of archival adidas labels.

Good design is knowing when to stop and it seems that Nigo has perfected this approach as the seemingly random collection of labels contrast well with the simple white of the three stripes and shell toe. The details continue with a woven label on the tongue with the number ’25’ (Ni Go in Japanese) on it.

With adidas expanding their application of the shell toe, it is nice to see them try new ways to update the Superstar that started it all.
