Among the parade of new models and concepts that have debuted at the prestigious 2017 Geneva Motor Show is the Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e EV Concept. This, in essence, is the British automaker sticking a flag in the ground declaring it will be a player in the luxury electric car segment. It also gives us a glance at what a “Flying B” EV may look like once a production version is unveiled.
Not surprisingly, the iconic thin wire mesh grille is back, but this time accented with an illuminated ‘6e’ logo. There are other touches traditionalist may see as gimmicky, like an unusually shaped steering wheel, and sideview mirror “wings” that are actually cameras.
Being a concept, engine performance figures are kept close to the chest. Bentley states, for the record, that any electric Bentley would have a driving range of about 200 miles from a single charge. Bentley is touting a “push to pass” acceleration feature, thanks to the electric motor’s instant, smooth and powerful acceleration. Currently, charging is done through plug-in access behind the rear license plate, but the automaker states that the car can be charged through wireless induction as well.
Despite these high tech amenities, Bentley is keen to point out that the Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e EV Concept does not compromise on core brand values like comfort, quality, performance and high-end amenities. With the concept brimming with technology, including an OLED touchscreen infotainment system, along with luxurious touches like crafted copper accents, and a natural wood and leather-lined interior, this Bentley stays true to its luxury car roots.
